Rick Genest, known to his friends and fans as “Zombie Boy”, was an American musician, actor, and model. In his music and acting career, he had the distinction of starring in three movies that became hits, as well as being featured in numerous fashion magazines and publications.
One of the most famous of Genest's movies was Zombies, which he produced and performed in with fellow actor Michael Jackson. Zombies, in addition to earning him several Oscar nominations, was one of the highest grossing films of the year at the box office. He is also well-known for his contributions on the big screen to the genre of horror films, such as the original horror classic, Halloween, and even The Ring, as well as the sequel, Friday the 13th. A notable character in the original Halloween film was Freddy Kruger, who was played by James Brolin.
Genest, along with his band, Jackass, had a brief stint in the United States as a part of the Jackson 5, but broke up shortly thereafter. While he is still alive and performing today, Genest continues to make a name for himself through music and acting, as well as being a writer, illustrator, and painter. It is a rare combination to be a musician and a painter, but Genest has accomplished both in his career.
Genest's greatest role, however, is as an actor and singer, where he appeared in the films' Jackson, The Crow, and a remake of The Warriors. Genest's career is further cemented as his appearance in the television series Lost, where he plays Will Graham, an FBI agent who is presumed dead.
In Zombies, Genest plays the role of a zombified version of himself, which he refers to as “Zombie Boy”. This zombie persona gives him a unique voice and appearance, that are not typical of what most other actors do. He is well known for his accent, as he is from Canada, and is considered one of the more unique voices among actors from the country.
Rick Genest has appeared in several music videos over the years. One of these is the video for “Came a Long” off his first album, The Last, which was also featured in several episodes of the popular television show Lost. This song was played during the season two premiere of the show. In another video, Genest plays the role of Dr. Albert Einstein in an episode of the movie Black Swan.
Rick Genest's music career was not always so successful, as the result of the poor economy. After signing a record deal with Atlantic Records, the company went out of business. He remained with the label for a while, but it was only after many fan protests that he signed with the major label.
In 2020, he released his second album, a collection of covers called The Biggest Loser, which contained his songs recorded with some of the biggest names in music history. Another of his tracks, “The Great Pretender”, features the voice of Jim Carrey. His music has also been heard on several documentaries, including the documentary, I'm Sorry – A Memoir of Hope, in which he discusses how he came to be on the television show of the same name.
It is unknown how many episodes of the television show Lost were actually shot, as he did not appear on any episodes of the program. However, he did appear on the series finale episode “Jolene” in 2020, along with several other famous faces.
Rick Genest is no longer with the show. His character died when he was killed off in the season five episode, “Ascension”, which aired in 2020.
The actor was born in British Columbia, Canada. He started out acting in small roles, but eventually went on to have a long and successful career in film and television.
